The medical office diploma program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary for an entry-level position in a variety of health care settings. Students will learn medical terminology, medical coding and billing, medical transcription, electronic health records, handling of patient files, as well as other general office skills and several different software applications.
CERTIFICATION
Upon completion of the medical office program, students are eligible to sit for the National Health Association certification exam to become certified as a medical billing and coding specialist, as well as a medical administrative assistant. Taking these exams is voluntary; however, it is recommended that all graduates of the medical office program take either one or both of these exams.
The pass rate for those DBI-Downriver graduates who have taken the medical and coding exam is 80%, and the pass rate for the medical administrative assistant exam is 100%. The skills and applications that the students acquire in the medical office program not only make it possible for the successful results on the NHA exam, but also assist the student in obtaining employment after graduation.
DAY AND EVENING SCHOOL PROGRAMS
For the student’s convenience, DBI-Downriver offers both a day school program (Medical Office), and an evening program (Medical Office Specialist). Day school students attend five days per week, and evening school students attend four evening per week, Monday through Thursday.
